EHang and Tsinghua Launch Joint Institute
Priorities include designing autonomous aircraft, low-altitude regulations, and command centers.
EHang announced on July 11 the launch of the Tsinghua University–Guangzhou EHang Joint Institute for Low Altitude Aviation Technology (JILAAT), a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating research and innovation in low-altitude aviation technologies.
The Joint Institute brings together interdisciplinary teams from Tsinghua University—including the School of Aerospace Engineering, School of Vehicle and Mobility, School of Architecture, and the Departments of Computer Science and Technology, Automation, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering—all focused on low-altitude aviation research.
The teams will collaborate closely with EHang on research and development initiatives.
Technical priorities for the institute include the design of medium-to-large autonomous aircraft, low-altitude regulatory systems, and command centers for autonomous flight operations.
Key areas of focus also include new energy and propulsion systems, aerodynamic design, intelligent flight control, communication and regulatory technologies, and infrastructure planning for takeoff and landing sites.

EHang said the institute will act as a collaborative hub to pioneer new industry-academia-research partnerships, advance key technologies for the growing low-altitude economy, and develop top talent in the field.
Building on this foundation, the company pointed to its longstanding connections with Tsinghua University—through its founder and key executives—as a basis for deepening ties between academia and industry.
Earlier this year, EHang said it helped establish the Tsinghua Alumni Association Guangzhou Chapter’s Aerospace and Intelligent Manufacturing Committee, further strengthening collaboration between academia and industry.
