August 28, 2025 — EHang announced its EH216-L eVTOL multicopter drone has completed Japan’s first cargo flight in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The aircraft transported 160 kilograms (353 pounds) of sand to simulate goods, following a pre-programmed route without a pilot onboard.
According to EHang, the demonstration highlighted the potential for delivering supplies in mountainous and disaster-affected areas where conventional logistics are limited.
The flight was organized by Sky Mobility Japan in partnership with the Okayama Kurashiki Mizushima Aero & Space Industry Cluster Study Group (MASC), a nonprofit formed in 2017 to promote the aerospace industry in western Japan.
The EH216-L has a payload capacity of up to 250 kilograms (551 pounds), a maximum speed of 130 km/h (81 mph), and a flight range of 35 kilometers (22 miles).
