Standard Development: eVTOL Electric Motors
Plus, a look at released standards in the field.
Summary
China's low‑altitude economy is hitting a critical inflection point as standardization efforts intensify to bridge the gap between prototyping and commercial‑scale eVTOL production.
The latest catalyst comes from the China Association for Standardization (CAS), which has approved two new group standards — led by the Shanghai Electrical Apparatus Research Institute (SEARI) and co‑drafted with industry leaders like Wolong Electric and TCab Tech — that specifically tackle the long‑standing bottlenecks of electric power motor reliability and noise evaluation.
The move adds to an existing set of over a dozen active group standards.
The CAAC has also finalized its airworthiness rules (effective April 2026), and a national roadmap targets more than 300 benchmarks by 2030.
Collectively, such actions reflect a methodical effort to build out the regulatory and technical foundation necessary for scaled commercial operations.
Let’s get into it.
