Suzhou Takes the Lead on Noise Abatement
The standard aim to address noise pollution by setting permissible noise thresholds, optimizing vertiport placement, and requiring sound-reduction technologies.

Lately, helicopters seem to be flying more frequently. When they pass overhead, my entire house shakes - Shenzhen resident, quoted by Ao Yi News

Noise.
It’s an issue the aviation industry has grappled with for decades, from airport expansion protests to the roar of jets overhead. Now, Shenzhen residents are experiencing it firsthand, as the rising number of helicopter flights fuels frustration over balancing the city’s push for aerial mobility with its citizens’ right to tranquility.
This very issue is under scrutiny by the Suzhou Institute of Acoustics Industry Technology et al, who aim to reconcile technological progress with urban livability.
Tasked with drafting and publishing localized regulations, the institute is setting guidelines for noise management at vertical takeoff/landing sites, conducting aircraft noise testing, and designing mitigation strategies for low-altitude operations.
