Zhuhai Approves Low-Altitude Transportation Regulations
The new rules aim to promote the development of low-altitude aviation infrastructure and expand UAV applications
The Zhuhai Municipal People’s Congress Standing Committee has approved the Regulations on the Construction and Management of Low-Altitude Transportation in the Zhuhai Special Economic Zone, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
The new rules aim to promote the development of low-altitude aviation infrastructure and expand applications of UAVs in the region.
The regulations encourage the construction of low-altitude flight facilities in suitable locations, including islands, hospitals, schools, sports venues, business districts, tall buildings, transport hubs, and tourist sites.
They also support the use of UAVs for intercity transport, last-mile delivery, and operations like logistics, material supply, and rapid medical transfers in urban, rural, and island areas.
The regulations come as part of Zhuhai's push to develop and introduce an innovative housing concept for Zhuhai in China’s southern Guangdong province. Led by Zhuhai Huafa Group, the plan aims to integrate advanced technologies, including uncrewed aerial systems (UAS) and artificial intelligence (AI), into residential construction practices.
Meanwhile, the city is exploring distinctive application scenarios, including the recent launch of the Tangjia Port-Guishan Island drone logistics and distribution route, utilizing Ehang’s VT24 logistics UAV.
For its part, Zhuhai’s Postal Administration has announced plans to support new drone flight routes and encourage companies to engage in UAV-based delivery services for residential areas.
